I had to do it . . . But, seriously, I'm feeling a little bound up by all my current works in progress. I've got three full-length poetry books I keep saying I'm going to arrange, four different prompt journals at various stages of completion, a novel-in-verse that has been started/wiped/restarted several times, and new poems being written near daily. On top of all of that, I've got normal life projects happening too. The usual house/yard improvements, personal improvements, a business idea that I'm seriously considering, my bookmarks, journaling, crochet, fun things with the Little Human, dog things . . . The list feels never ending.
I'm not complaining, nor is it a "humble brag". It's just life. And I've been really intrigued by this current life stage at the moment. The anxiety and whatnot is being addressed in therapy, but it's also something that means I'm reassessing the things that I've normalized. I'm already a deeply introspective person, but this feels less like introspection and more like how people discuss the deconstruction of their faith. It's more a challenge of my belief systems and identity than I've had, maybe ever. But I also think that's why I have so many ideas and projects and such in the works right now.
In my adulthood, I've striven to be a person who allows my creativity to flow through me–someone who allows herself to be taken by whimsy without trying to force the act of creation. I've always been particularly productive when under pressure, as is the case with many creatives. This particular time feels strange when I am technically stressed, but not (at the moment, at least) distressed. This has been an interesting time of destruction and creation in a near daily (sometimes hourly) loop. It's providing some interesting considerations and results.
To be honest, this blog post is less about any big, particular realization and more about recording where I'm at for the future. It's a tough and mentally exhausting point in my life, but it is also a rather freeing and generative time. I'm not sure what will viably come from this period–I don't even know if the things I'm creating are any good. And I'm definitely not editing anything I'm making when it feels like I'm already editing so much else in my life. For now, I'm just working on myself and my projects. I'm eating tasty food and getting outside and watching rain and creating and reading. I hope all the same and lovely things for you.
Happy Reading!
