I generally consider myself a quick study, and–even if I'm not fast–I can pick stuff up relatively easily. Not in everything, mind, but if I dedicate time to learning, I can usually get at least a good base understanding and work from there. I rarely can just let something sit, so if I'm bad at it I'll complain but keep learning to improve. I'm not happy if I'm not pursuing some form of knowledge or betterment. Which is likely why LEARN is the thickest section of Inkling.
Now, I'm a fan of happy endings, but I'm also not dead, so there's no good way to just cap everything off in a book about mourning and growth. I still knew I wanted to wrap up on a lighter note though, which is why LEARN made the most sense arranged at the back of the book. I also really wanted to showcase the change in my thinking/processing over time, which I think it does.
The poems in this section are maybe not perfectly described as "light." So few of my pieces could be truthfully considered as joyful or light (though I'm not really all darkness and anger 24/7 in person, I swear!), but LEARN is probably the closest thing I think any of my current WIP's have a claim on.
. . . I suppose that's something to address later. (It's fine. I'm fine.)
Regardless of how happy they are or are not in nature, (and despite the fact that I'm pretty sure I've said this about every part of Inkling thus far) LEARN has some of my favorite poems in it. And, obviously, the last piece of the book would be one of my all time favorites, but for now, here's another to which I'm still relating:
Something shattered beyond repair
Can still cut–sharp and deep.
A change in purpose
Does not amount to uselessness.
