New(ish) Projects

The ish is mostly because the projects I'm gonna mention have all been in the works for a while actually. They're starting to feel rather old to me, but unless you're my mom or part of my (very small) group of writing friends, it's obviously news to you . . . And maybe even then, because I usually am terrible at keeping people updated with what I'm actually pursuing vs. discarding. Yep. Good times.
Anyway, here's a brief overview of a couple things I am still working on despite my current publishing focus:
A Children's Book - I think I've touched on this once or twice, but this is something I'm actually really excited to be working on right now! It's - hopefully - going to be a kid's picture book/board book kind of thing. The good news it: The actual writing of it is done, so I'm on to the difficult (for me, anyway) part which is illustration. Now, I'm not the most skilled artistically, but I do like to try new things. So, while I will likely eventually need to just hire an illustrator to make my vision come to fruition, for now I will continue to stumble my way around Procreate. It's been a process.
A Novel - Yeah, I've definitely mentioned this one! It's a fairytale mashup from one of my favorite Disney movies and an underrated Grimm's story. I'm a little bit salty about this project, but also very determined. You see, this is the novel I started about two or three years ago. I wrote over 50,000 words toward it . . . And then threw it all out. I'll admit: That hurt. It really hurt. So, naturally, I took a year away from it, did some brainstorming, and came back at it with a twist last year. I haven't made as much progress as I'd like, but I'm planning to jump back in with better focus this November.
Another Poetry Book - Ok, actually, I have a few in progress here: I have a mass document where I add almost all my poems as I write them, but the one I'm talking about is a manuscript being written chronologically with a specific theme. That work is going to be a linear time capsule kind of deal with poems written as letters for my past self/as reflections of my life. This one is slow going - mostly because it takes a lot of thought and requires some processing of emotions. Still, work is being done and I'm happy with how it's going.
Again, there are still other projects I'm working on, but I thought I'd share what's been on the tip of my pen lately. (Or, perhaps I should say has been clacking away on my keyboard?) Either way, I'm one of those writers who seems to be making only a little bit of headway, but everything comes together eventually. I hope to be sharing my already finished works soon, but I'm also not planning to let it stop there. Promise!
